SPECIMEN NO.:  36SOPA-8

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  This unfluted Paleo type base is a type of greenish chert, origin unknown at this time.

SIZE:  Length - 2.1 cm.
            Basal Width - 2.1 cm.

LITHIC MATERIAL:  Granular greenish stone. Origin unknown at this time.

PROVENIENCE:  Recovered in 1976 by W. Frederick Veigh, high on a hill about 1000 feet below two known and excavated sites called the Powell sites, in the extreme northern part of Somerset County. Elevation of the recovered artifact is approximately 2300 feet above sea level.

REMARKS:  Many sites have been recorded in this "Mountian Basin". They are: 36SO11, 36SO12, and 36SO48.  This artifact was recovered from the surface of 36SO48, approximately 100 meters east of the farm house on this property.
