SPECIMEN NO:  36SOPA-2

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:   A very delicately executed "Clovis"-type point. It is basically white with a mottling of dark and light grays with shades of blue. There is both basal grinding as well as vertical grinding of both edges.

SIZE:  Longest Length - 7.4 cm.
           Width at Base - 2.4 cm.
           Grinding of Vertical Edges - 3.2 cm.
           Flute's Length - 4.1 cm.
           Flute's Width - 1.8 cm.

LITHIC MATERIAL:  May be from the Williamson Site, Dinwiddie County, Virginia, or from Flint Ridge, Ohio.

PROVENIENCE:  Recovered from the surface of a cultivated field approximately one mile north of Meyersdale Borough, Pa. in 1973. Nearby water sources, Blue Lick Creek and the Casselman River.

LOCATION:  U.S.G.S., 7.5' map, Meyersdale quadrant. Elevation, 2100 feet.

REMARKS:  Many artifacts fashioned from similar flints have been recovered from cultivated fields in Somerset County. This particular spear point is in my opinion the most beautifully executed point ever recovered there.
