GENERAL DESCROPTION: A delicately executed "Clovis"-type fluted point. This artifact displays the usual basal grinding as well as grinding of its vertical edes.
SIZE: Length - 8.6 cm.
Basal
Width - 2.5 cm.
Flute's
Length - 3.5 cm.
LITHIC MATERIAL: Medium gray fine grained flint similar to Debert Flint from Nova Scotia. Also similar to Flint-Ridge flint from Ohio.
PROVENIENCE: Recovered from the surface of a cultivated field immediately west of Shanksville Borough in Somerset County by a farmer in 1920. It was found approximately 500 metres east of Weigle Run and 200 metres north of an excellent spring.
LOCATION: U.S.G.S. map, 7..5', Shanksville quadrant. Elevation, 2400 feet.
COLLECTOR: Caryl Weigle who now is deceased. Artifact currently in possession of Otto Wilt, Stoystown, Pa.
COMMENTS: This particular artifact is the first "PALEO-INDIAN" artifact discovered in Somerset County.
